Australia’s certified organic sector has exceeded $1 billion in annual direct sales for the first time, according to the Australian Organic Market Report 2026.
The report, released by Australian Organic Limited, values certified organic domestic retail sales and exports at $1.02 billion in FY2024/25.
Domestic certified organic retail sales for take-home consumption reached $657.6 million, an increase of 11.9% on the previous year, while certified organic exports were valued at up to $364 million.
The report found Australian certified organic products are exported to more than 40 markets. It also reported increases in sales volume, buyer numbers and purchase frequency during the year.
Australia accounts for approximately 49% of the world’s certified organic land area.
Australian Organic Limited identified export market access, processing capacity and the lack of a nationally consistent domestic regulatory framework for organic products as areas affecting further development of the sector.
