Strong start to 2025 crushing season

CANEGROWERS has commended sugar mill workers across Queensland for a strong and smooth start to the 2025 crushing season.

Meeting in Brisbane, the CANEGROWERS Policy Council, made up of grower representatives from each mill area — noted that one month into the season, most regions are off to a positive start.

Chair Owen Menkens credited favourable weather and the results of significant off-season maintenance and investment, saying it’s important to recognise the efforts of mill workers after several challenging years.

CEO Dan Galligan highlighted the importance of industry-wide collaboration, stating that the successful start demonstrates what can be achieved when growers, harvesters and millers work together.

The Policy Council reaffirmed the importance of ongoing cooperation, transparency and respect across the supply chain to maintain momentum throughout the season.
