Victoria’s dairy sector has raised strong concerns over the State Government’s plan to abolish Dairy Food Safety Victoria (DFSV) and replace it with Safe Food Victoria.
Industry leaders warn the change could compromise food safety, increase costs for farmers and consumers, and undermine the state’s reputation in export markets. DFSV is currently a specialised, self-funded regulator, and there is no published business case showing the need for reform.
The United Dairyfarmers of Victoria has called on government to provide clarity, protect existing safety standards, and ensure farmers are not burdened with additional regulatory costs.
