Funding extended for popular livestock biosecurity initiative

Victorian farmers can breathe a sigh of relief as the state government has announced an extension of funding for the widely praised Livestock Biosecurity Initiative.

This extension ensures continued support for vital biosecurity measures that safeguard the health of livestock and the broader agricultural industry.

The Livestock Biosecurity Initiative, a cornerstone of Victoria’s efforts to protect its farming sector, will receive additional funding to enhance and expand its programs. This initiative provides crucial resources for managing and mitigating biosecurity risks, helping farmers maintain high animal health standards and disease prevention.

VFF President Emma Germano welcomed the funding extension, recognising the initiative’s critical role in supporting livestock farmers. “The Livestock Biosecurity Initiative has proven to be an invaluable asset for Victoria’s agricultural community,” Ms Germano said. “By extending this funding, we are reinforcing our commitment to protecting our livestock and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our industry.”

The initiative includes a range of programs, such as on-farm biosecurity training, disease surveillance, and emergency response planning. These programs are designed to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to manage biosecurity threats and respond swiftly to potential outbreaks effectively.

The funding extension is expected to enhance existing programs and introduce new measures to address emerging challenges in livestock health. This proactive approach aims to strengthen the resilience of Victoria’s livestock industry against diseases and biosecurity risks.

“The extension of this funding is a testament to the importance of biosecurity in safeguarding our agricultural sector,” Ms Germano added. “It allows us to continue delivering high-quality support and resources to farmers, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle any potential biosecurity issues.”

Farmers and industry stakeholders are encouraged to take advantage of the resources available through the Livestock Biosecurity Initiative. For more information on the initiative and how to access its services, visit the VFF’s website or contact their office directly.
