Building premium brands for the Northern Territory’s unique produce

A new strategic initiative is underway to position Northern Territory produce, including mangoes, Kakadu plums and barramundi, as premium Australian brands.

The NT Government, in collaboration with NT Farmers, NT Seafood Council, and the Darwin Innovation Hub, is working to unlock greater value and global recognition for these iconic products.

The project aims to identify the most promising opportunities for commercial branding, export growth, and market development, with a particular focus on establishing a Northern Australian provenance story. Stakeholder consultation will ensure industry-led priorities shape the final outcomes, with a report due by the end of 2025.

This initiative builds on the Territory’s existing strengths in horticulture, aquaculture, and bush foods, and is part of a broader strategy to grow the Territory’s agribusiness sector through innovation, branding and strategic market positioning.
